French Subject Lead

“As French lead, my vision is that every child develops confidence, curiosity and enjoyment in learning another language. Through listening, speaking, reading and writing, pupils learn to communicate for real purposes, notice how language works and develop an appreciation of French speaking cultures. We want pupils to leave primary school seeing themselves as capable language learners who are ready to continue learning French, or another language, at Key Stage 3.”

French Curriculum Intent

The national curriculum for MFL aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources
  • speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and
    intonation
  • can write at varying lengths, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt
  • discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in the language studied.
